Mayor Wharton Shares Vision for City!

The Leadership Academy and Leadership Memphis held a breakfast this morning with Mayor AC Wharton. Mayor Wharton shared his vision for leadership our city. He covered crime and safety, education as well as minority business advancement.

General Mills Honors Local Heroes


General Mills, Inc. honored three local heroes at the Feeding Dreams Community Champions Luncheon and Awards Ceremony this Tuesday at the Hilton Memphis. Those honored were BBA member Chauniece Conner of Ballet on Wheels Dance School, which teaches dance to children of all ages and races; Linda Guy of Hope House, one of only 10 agencies nationwide that provides services to those affected by or infected with HIV/AIDS and Ekundayo Bandele of the Hattiloo Theatre Camp Awareness, which teaches local children Each was honored for their dedication to their communities.

New Chicago CDC Ribbon Cutting Ceremony











The New Chicago Community Development Corporation held their Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of its new Affordable Housing Development located at their first location at 1042 Manassas. This project was developed with the support of the City of Memphis, Division of Housing and Community Development, The Non-Profit Housing Center, The Shelby County Government Homestead Program and Cadence bank.

The Black Business Association of Memphis (BBA) invites you to join us for the 24th Annual BENNY Awards Dinner & Gala on Thursday, February 20, 2010 at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn University of Memphis.

B-E-N-N-Y is an acronym for “Black Entrepreneurship Networking Needs You.” Our objective is to promote the creation, expansion and development of black, minority and woman-owned businesses through networking, procurement opportunities, training, mentoring and information sharing.

During the 2010 event (black-tie optional), we will recognize outstanding individuals, M/WBEs and corporate supporters for their contributions and achievements in 12 award categories, including Outstanding Business of the Year. BUST A MOVE MONDAY (BAMM) SEPTEMBER 14th, 2009

BUST A MOVE MONDAY (BAMM) is an initiative of The New Olivet Baptist Church. New Olivet Pastor Dr. Kenneth T. Whalum Jr. is the CEO.

A chosen black-owned business in the Memphis community is patronized by B-A-M-M! supporters. While B-A-M-M! recipients are black-owned businesses, B-A-M-M! embraces the community at large. The ultimate goal is to create wealth in the African-American community and make a favorable impact on the overall stability of the Memphis economy.


Bust-A-Move-Monday, an initiative to bolster black-owned businesses in the Memphis community, will B-A-M-M! the Tri-State Defender on Monday, Sept 14.

The Tri-State Defender is located at 203 Beale St., Ste. 200. B-A-M-M! staff and volunteers will be outside to aid supporters. Newspaper staff also will be on hand to greet passersby.
